Meet BKD Forensics: Jim Snyder

Jim is the managing partner of BKD’s Forensics & Valuation Services division. For more than 30 years, Jim’s career has focused on the intersection of accounting and law. As managing partner, he brings the practical experience of working with attorneys, judges and clients all over the world in challenging situations involving litigation, dispute resolution and investigations. Jim is frequently called upon to serve as an arbitrator and mediator in commercial disputes around the U.S.

He started his professional career as an investigator/paralegal with a large regional law firm. After attending law school, Jim became a partner and managing partner of the law firm at age 38, making him one of the youngest managing partners of a major law firm in the Midwest. As a trial lawyer, Jim focused on accounting issues as they related to the representation of CPA firms and damages/valuation issues. He often was called upon to lead key litigation strategies for Fortune 500 companies and a number of CPA firms around the country.

Jim founded J.A. Snyder and Associates consulting firm and served as its president and CEO. The firm worked with a number of prominent CPA firms nationwide in risk avoidance. He continued his work as a trial lawyer with a large national law firm.

As a lawyer, Jim was elected to the board of the local and state bar associations. He received the Collegial Counselor Award from the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association, awarded to the legal professional who best demonstrates the qualities of integrity and collegiality in the performance of professional responsibilities. The award is selected by lawyers representing both plaintiffs and defendants.

In 2002, Jim joined BKD and became the managing partner of the Forensics & Valuation Services division. The division is a national practice group focused on providing solutions in investigations, litigation support, damages testimony and rebuttal, computer forensics, data analytics, business valuation services and data mining. Jim and his team of Certified Fraud Examiners, CPAs, forensic accountants, computer forensics specialists and Certified Valuation Analysts have provided solutions to companies and legal counsel across the nation and world.

He was the founder and chair of a group of international managing partners of forensics and valuation services firms around the world and maintains very strong relationships with investigators and forensic accountants in the United Kingdom, Africa, France, Belgium and Singapore.

In 2010, Jim received the BKD PRIDE Award, which is given annually to one partner and one employee who demonstrate BKD’s PRIDE values:  passion, respect, integrity, discipline and excellence.

Outside of BKD, Jim is an avid and competitive tennis player, a board member of several not-for-profit organizations and a self-proclaimed wine and food geek.
